The FSB has stopped paying compensation for renting housing for employees

The FSB reduced payments for rent: operatives were asked to independently solve their housing problems.

The Russian FSB has actually stopped payments to employees for subletting housing. Previously, such compensation was a noticeable part of the material support of operatives and managers, and in some cases reached up to 150 thousand rubles per month. Now, due to a lack of budget funds, funding for the program has been suspended.

The problem hit the employees of the Central Office of the FSB of the Russian Federation especially acutely. Most of them come to serve in Moscow from regional departments, while the departmental housing stock remains extremely limited. Rental compensation was in fact the main way to solve the housing problem for out-of-town officers.

After payments ceased, employees began using temporary and semi-legal options. The operational units retain the so-called «cuckoo apartments» — premises that are intended for operational activities and secret meetings.

Against the backdrop of a housing shortage, operatives are unofficially allowed to use such apartments for living. However, they are clearly not enough: a unit of 20–30 people accounts for only about 2–3 such facilities.

Another option is — assigned rooms in departmental hotels, in particular in «Akademicheskaya». But for employees with families, such accommodation is unsuitable for long-term living.

As a result, Central Office officers have to independently look for housing and pay for it from personal savings, contact relatives or look for other options.
