In connection with reports of a potential promotion of the head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow, Oleg Baranov, personnel changes took place in his department.

Mikhail Vanichkin, who previously served in the Main Directorate for Criminal Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, was appointed head of the Moscow criminal investigation department.

And the head of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Central Administrative District, Oleg Paukov, became the deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow. He is the son of the head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Moscow Region, Viktor Paukov. Paukov Jr. was among the candidates for the position of the new head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Moscow.

But sources previously said that he was "bypassed" by the head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sverdlovsk Region, Alexander Meshkov. He is now considered the main contender
